This was a very fun read and one of few textbooks I've reread for pure entertainment purposes. The chapters on x-ray crystallography and igneous geochemistry might be confusing to some, but those on specific notable minerals were very helpful in terms of learning how to ID. Illustrations were also 10/10; lots of pretty rocks

This book manages to explain topics in petrology and mineralogy in a palatable fashion. Its treatment of binary phase diagrams surpasses those found in similar texts (such as Frost's Essentials of Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology). Its pages are adorned with tasteful images and clean diagrams. It is the only textbook for which I've invested in a physical copy.
